Boniface Kamara is a former Sierraleonese Rondine student. He experienced war in his home-country and now he teaches human rights and peace studies at the University of Makeni, in the northern part of the State. When he was 12 years old, his father was killed by the rebels. In the following years, he and his family (his mother and 4 siblings) fled from Makeni because the rebels of the Ruf (United revolutionary front) had temporarily conquered the town. They moved to a nearby village, but they did not have either food nor medicines and had to live all together in a hut. Luckily the war ended soon after but it was not easy to recover from a long conflict (1991-2001) which had caused dozens of thousands of victims and millions of refugees. After a University degree in history and political sciences in Sierra Leone, Boniface moved to Rondine (Arezzo, Italy) following the suggestion of Monsignor Giorgio Biguzzi, bishop of Makeni. He took a master in human rights at the University of Siena and went back to his country, where he is now a well-known professor. He often underlines the importance of justice, because, as he says, "there is no peace without justice".
