The Italian association “Rondine Citadel of Peace” announces a call for participants for the camp Act for Peace that will take place in the small village of Rondine, near the town of Arezzo, in Italy.
Since 1997 Rondine has hosted young people coming from different cultures, who work actively to develop projects to bring social, political, and economic impact contributing to a more peaceful development in their own communities.
The young participants in Rondine Programme come from countries in conflict or post conflict countries from the Balkans, the Middle East, the North and South Caucasus, Russia and Africa.
The two-year experience focuses on the promotion of the culture of dialogue and coexistence with the other participants coming from regions/areas/Countries in conflict.
This year Rondine young participants and the Rotary Club Tuscany organize a one-week camp “Act for Peace” for participants coming from Armenia and Azerbaijan. Thanks to Rondine expertise the protagonists of the project intend to spread the culture of dialogue and peace through an intensive training youth camp to a group of active young Armenians and Azerbaijanis, with strong motivation and capacity to bring positive changes in their societies. The main methodological components of the camp are the dialogue between the participants and the forum theatre. Forum Theatre is a creative tool for change developed by the innovative practitioner Augusto Boal. It is one of the techniques of the so-called “Theatre of the Oppressed”.
The participants develop a performance that represents a conflict evolving between the two main characters; the oppressed and the oppressor. The audience watches the performance, discusses the conflict, and thinks of solutions. The solutions are presented by replacing one of the characters of “the conflict story”. The objective is to present, discuss, and work on different conflicts, introduce and reflect on the topic of conflict transformation. The participants will then apply the practical knowledge, skills, and theories acquired during the camp.
